Trailer Services

Every trailer we service recieves a 120+ point safety inspection checklist which we developed ourselves to cover the standard trailer service items like brakes, tyre condtion, lights etc but also covers horse trailer specific items like partion condition, ramp springs and trailer side panel conditon.

After our inspection we will return the findings to you with an estimate of work for authorization.

After rapair are carried out all trailers receive an external wash and are returned with a J Dow Horseboxes service book.

Brake Lathe

Our brake lathe allows us to resurface brake discs and drums which have begun to corrode. Horse trailers are often rarely used and sit for long periods of time, especially over cold and wet Scottish winters. These factors cause brake comonents to fail long before they have actually worn down all the material. We use our brake lathe to resurface trailer brake drums, pictured, to restore proper brake operation and performance for a fraction of the cost of new components.

Ifor Williams side panel replacement

Eventually the time comes to change soft side panels on the Ifor Williams horse trailers. Fortunately new panels are still available from Ifor.

It’s a fairly involved job. The rear corner pillars need removed which means drilling out a fair number of rivets. The light panel gets disconnected and all of the internal padding along with the lower kick board needs removed.

Once the new panel is slid into place, it gets secured with new bolts, nuts & rivets.

The old rotten panel has completely failed along its lower edge yet when it was in situ, it didn’t appear to be too bad!
